I am a German biophysicist with a 17 years track of research in the field of biophysical chemistry. I did my PhD at the University of Göttingen and my habilitation at the University of Potsdam, and published 46 research papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. 

 

My research was focused on studying proteins and biomembranes in atomic or near-atomic detail using molecular dynamics computer simulations. Specifically, I have worked on membrane remodeling, interaction of salt ions with membranes, reorganization of membranes upon viral or bacterial infection, antimicrobial peptides as templates for new

antibiotics, neurodegenerative diseases, and molecular recognition in treatments of viral infections, including the design of new peptides for the diagnosis and treatment of influenza

I review research proposals as well as manuscripts for international journals and have recently joined the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences as a Topic Editor (scientists please check our call of papers for the Special Issue "Alzheimer’s Disease: Role and Structure of Soluble Oligomers").

To educate young scientists, I have taught and supervised graduate and undergraduate students.

As a literature prize winner and member of a group of authors I have published short stories in literary magazines and with independent publishers. My literary side combined with my scientific expertise and my love to explain science to laypersons pushed me to turn to writing popular science books about biology, chemistry, and physics.
